Marius has 30 years’ experience in the construction industry across the full spectrum of activities. He has held various executive management positions for leading public and private companies in the sector and was reappointed at Basil Read on 19 October 2004 in his current position.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Martin Lombard has a wealth of experience in the construction industry which he entered in 1971.  He was Chief Executive Officer of Roadcrete which in 2008 celebrated 20 years of being one of South Africa’s most respected firms of civil engineering contractors. 

Martin was appointed to his present position of Deputy CEO in 2009.

Executive Director: International
Kobus has 29 years’ experience in the building and construction industry. Following a successful tenure as Managing Director of the building division. Kobus was appointed as Executive Director looking after international markets in 2009.

Executive Director: Civil Engineering
Eugene has 32 years’ experience in the industry, where he has held various senior executive positions with some of the largest construction companies in South Africa. He joined Basil Read in 2006, where he held various senior posts. Eugene was recently appointed to the role of Executive Director: Civil Engineering.

Executive Director: Engineering*
Chris has 25 years’ experience in the construction industry and has been with Basil Read for this period. He has held various posts at senior level and has gained valuable experience across all facets of the group. Chris was recently appointed as Executive Director: Engineering.

Executive Director: Buildings
Peter's experience in the building industry includes Technical Pro-Efficiency, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Civil Engineering, skilled Site Agent / Project Manager.
 
He was the Managing Director of P. Gerolemou Construction (PTY) Ltd. for 29 years, one of the biggest privately owned construction companies in the Pretoria area.
 
Peter was appointed to his present position of Executive Director, buildings after the acquisition of P. Gerolemou Construction / Mvela Phanda construction in October 2009

Executive Director: Buildings
Reinoud joined the Group in 1989 and was involved in the Building Division until 2001, whereafter he became Group Management Accountant until 2002.

 He subsequently spent two years in the legal department and later returned to the building division in 2004 to his current position.

Executive Director*
Kgomotso has extensive experience in marketing and communication implementation and has over six years experience in relationship management, business development and client service. He has held various leadership roles throughout his career and was appointed to the position of Executive Director, Commercial at Basil Read in 2009.

Director*
Deon de Jager has been with Basil Read for 17 years, starting off as a bursary student in 1990.

He has since held several successful managerial positions and was appointed as Managing Director of Roads in 2006.

Managing Director*: Civils
Willem Meyer has been responsible for a variety of contracts at some of South Africa’s biggest construction companies, during his 20 years of experience in the industry.

He joined Basil Read in 2006 where he took up his current position in the Civils division.

Executive Director: Mining
Frans Van Wyk joined Basil Read in July 2007, after the acquisition of Blasting and Excavating by Basil Read. Frans, the Managing Director of B&E, was then appointed Director of Mining at Basil Read.

He has worked in the civil engineering industry for over 30 years and assumed the position of B&E MD in 1999.

Managing Director: Basil Read Developments*
Des has over 20 years of experience in construction, ranging from consulting to contracting and developments. His main focus is Breaking New Ground (BNG) projects such as the highly successful Cosmo City Development.

He joined Basil Read in 2006 and was appointed as Managing Director of Developments in 2006.

Executive Director
Tshiwo Sibane Yenana has 10 years experience in developments. He has worked in various public and private sector roles for the City of Cape Town, Gauteng Department of Housing, City of Johannesburg, Old Mutual Properties as well as the National Treasury. He joined basil Read in February 2009 and was appointed as Director for Basil Read (PTY) Ltd in July 2009.

Director*
Norman has over 30 years of experience in both the local and cross-border construction industry, focusing mainly on contractual management of heavy civil engineering and building projects.

He joined Basil Read in 2006 and is responsible for contractual, commercial and risk management functions.

Executive Director: Special Projects and Business Development*
With over 30 years experience in construction throughout Southern Africa, Jimmy’s responsibilities include the management of Special Projects, including PPP’s and business development. He was appointed Executive Director in 2009.

Director: Human Resources*
Bernard joined the group in 1988 as payroll administrator and assumed the role of remuneration manager during 2004. He is currently responsible for managing employee relations and good governance in terms of all employee matters. He is also actively involved in managing the group’s employee benefits and all other aspects relating to human resources. He was appointed as a director in 2006.

Executive Finance Director of Basil Read Holdings Limited
Donny has worked in finance for over 13 years, seven of which were spent in auditing. He joined the Group in 2001 and is responsible for group financial reporting, taxation planning, and group treasury and finance.

Donny was appointed as executive director in 2009.

Group Cost Control Director*
Logan joined Basil Read in 1988 in the accounts department. In 1996, he was appointed as area cost controller overseeing KwaZulu-Natal. In 2003, he was appointed divisional cost controller manager for the road and civil engineering division. In 2007, he was appointed as Group Cost Control Director.

Managing Director: Plant and Mining
Antonie Fourie became the Managing Director of the Basil Read Plant Division during 2006.

Constantly setting high standards for the division, he ensures that Basil Read is equipped to purchase only the highest quality plant equipment available. Antonie has recently been appointed as MD for Mining.
