Marius has more than 33 years of experience in the construction industry across the full spectrum of activities. Since previously holding an Executive
Management position in the Basil Read Roads Division in 1994 under Bouygues Travaux Publics SA, he has also held a range of Executive Management positions for
some leading public and private companies in the construction sector. He was reappointed at Basil Read in October 2004 as the Basil Read Group CEO.
Martin Lombard *
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Martin has a wealth of experience in the construction industry, which he entered in 1971. He was Chief Executive Officer of Roadcrete Africa, which in 2008
celebrated 20 years of being one of South Africa’s most well-respected firms of civil engineering contractors. Martin was appointed to his present
position of Deputy CEO in 2009.
Eugene du Toit
Executive Director: Basil Read Civils
Eugene has 35 years of experience in the industry, where he has held various Senior Executive positions with some of the largest construction companies in
South Africa. He joined Basil Read in 2006, where he has held various senior posts. In 2009, Eugene was appointed to the position of Executive Director: Civil
Engineering.
Willem Meyer
Managing Director: Basil Read Civils
Willem Meyer has been responsible for a variety of contracts at some of South Africa’s biggest construction companies, during his 23 year career in the
industry. He joined Basil Read in 2006 where he assumed his current position in the Civils Division.
Panayiotis Andreou Gerolemou (Peter)
Executive Director: Basil Read Buildings
Peter was the Managing Director of P. Gerolemou Construction (Pty) Ltd. for 29 years, one of the largest privately owned construction companies in the
Pretoria area. His experience in the building industry includes: Technical Pro-Efficiency, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Civil Engineering, Site Agent and
Project Manager. Peter was appointed to his present position of Executive Director: Buildings, following the Basil Read acquisition of P. Gerolemou
Construction / Mvela Phanda Construction in October 2009.
Deon de Jager
Managing Director: Basil Read Roads
Deon de Jager has been with Basil Read for 20 years, initially beginning his career as a bursary student in 1990. He has since held several successful
managerial positions within the Basil Read Group and was appointed as Director of Roads in 2006.
Reinoud OranjeDeputy Managing Director : BR Buildings
Reinoud joined the Group in 1989 and was involved in the Building Division until 1991, whereafter he became Group Management Accountant until 2004. He subsequently spent two years in the legal department and later returned to the building division in 2006 to his current position.
Des Hughes
Managing Director: Basil Read Developments
Des has over 20 years experience in construction, ranging from consulting to contracting and developments. With a special interest in sustainable
developments, his main focus is Breaking New Ground (BNG) projects such as the highly successful Cosmo City development. He joined Basil Read in 2006 and was
appointed as Managing Director of Developments that same year.
Norman Milne
Director: Commercial, Risk and SHERQ
Norman has over 33 years of experience in the local and cross-border construction industry, focusing mainly on contractual management of heavy civil
engineering and building projects. He joined Basil Read in 2006 and is responsible for contractual, commercial and risk management functions.
Jimmy Johnston
Executive Director: Special Projects and Business Development / PPP
With over 30 years experience in construction throughout Southern Africa, Jimmy’s responsibilities include the management of Special Projects, including
PPP’s and business development. He was appointed as an Executive Director in 2009.
Kgomotso Sekgobela
Executive Director: Business Development Director
Kgomotso has extensive experience in marketing and communication implementation and has over six years experience in relationship management, business
development and client service. He has held various leadership roles throughout his career and was appointed to the position of Executive Director at Basil
Read in 2009. Kgomotso is also currently working under the mentorship of Jimmy Johnston, Executive Director of special Projects and Business Development.
CHRISTOPHER JOHN ERASMUS
Executive Director : EPC
Chris has spent the past 28 years with the Basil Read Group. During this time, he has held various posts at senior level and has gained invaluable experience
across all facets of the group. Chris was appointed as Executive Director: Engineering, during 2009.
TSHIWO SIBANE YENANA
Director : EPC

Tshiwo Sibane Yenana has 10 years of experience in developments. He has worked in various public and private sector roles for the City of Cape Town, Gauteng
Department of Housing, City of Johannesburg, Old Mutual Properties as well as the National Treasury. He joined Basil Read in February 2009 and was appointed
as Director for Basil Read (Pty) Ltd in July 2009.
Frans van Wyk *
Executive Director: International
Frans Van Wyk joined Basil Read in July 2007, after the acquisition of Blasting and Excavating (B&E) by Basil Read. He has worked in the civil engineering
industry for just over 30 years and assumed the position of B&E Managing Director in 1999. Frans, was later appointed as Director of Mining at Basil Read.
Antonie Fourie
Managing Director: Mining, B&E and Plant
Antonie Fourie became the Managing Director of the Basil Read Plant Division during 2006. Constantly setting high standards for the division, he ensures that
Basil Read is equipped to purchase only the highest quality plant equipment available. Antonie Fourie was also appointed as Managing Director for Mining in
2009, and is currently under the mentorship of Frans Van Wyk.
WEBSTER MFEBE
Executive Director: Stakeholder Relations
Between 1997 and 2004 Webster was the Free State Government’s provincial minister responsible for Sport, Arts, Culture and Technology, and occasionally
acted as Free State Premier. He also previously held the position of SABC General Manger: Sport - playing a crucial role in stakeholder relations. Webster
joined Basil Read in 2009 and will play a fundamental role in terms of business development expertise.
Group Financial Director
Donny has worked in finance for over 13 years, seven of which were spent in auditing. He joined the Group in 2001 and is responsible for group financial
reporting, taxation planning, and group treasury and finance.
Donny was appointed as Executive Director in 2009.
VINAYAGAM KUMARASAMY MOODLEY (Logan) *
Director : Systems and Cost Control
Logan joined Basil Read in 1988 in the accounts department. In 1996, he was appointed as area cost controller overseeing KwaZulu-Natal. In 2003, he was
appointed divisional cost controller manager for the road and civil engineering division. In 2007, he was appointed as Group Cost Control Director.
BERNARD MELVIN JOHNSON
Director: Human Resources
Bernard joined the group in 1988 as payroll administrator and assumed the role of remuneration manager during 2004. He is currently responsible for managing
employee relations and good governance in terms of all employee matters. He is also actively involved in managing the group’s employee benefits and all
other aspects relating to human resources. He was appointed as a Director in 2006.
