Civils and earthworks with associated roads and drainage structures, for 33km
of railway line near Postmasburg in the Northern Cape


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The start of the site is approximately located at KM 820 on the Orex Line. This take-
off point is approximately 13.87km south East of Olifantshoek.

The link takes off from KM 820, on the Orex line, via a 1:120 high speed turnout, in
an easterly direction at chainage KM 3852 where a rail over road bridge will be
constructed. The rail link then runs generally in a south-easterly direction on the
southern side of the R385 for approximately 27km.

The end of the site is approximately located at 9.25km north-west of Postmasburg.
The end of the link line is 1,28km northwest of Beeshoek and 2,67km south of
Tommy’s Field Airfield.

Description of works:
• Establishment of a general site office
• Fencing of entire length of construction site
• Opening of and excavation from borrow pits
• Earthworks for the new Postmasburg Link line
• Earthworks and construction of the maintenance road along the Postmasburg Link line
• Construction of the Road over Rail Bridge crossing the R385 Provincial road
• Construction of Culverts and drainage pipes along the Link line
• Construction of Signalling Relay Room
• Ancillary works

The Heap Leach Pad-Earthworks, HDPE piping and lining contract – Trekkopje JV Namibia

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Trekkopje mine is situated 140km North East of Swakopmund in Namibia in the
Namib dessert. The contract is a Joint Venture between Basil Read, Concor and
Grinaker-LTA.

Contract work consists out of the construction of the Maxi Leach Pad, 7 solution
ponds and crushing of the filter material. The Leach Pad is 4km x 1km and covers an
area of approximately 2.1 million square meters which has to be covered by a plastic
geo membrane at a 1% fall. 1000km’s filtration pipe must be layed on top of the
membrane and then covered with the granite filter material with a height of 900mm
over the area. The total granite filter base that has to be crushed and placed is 3.8
million tones to a -38mm spec. Cut and Fill for the 1% slope consists of moving 2
million cubic meters of material. 1 million tons of sand has to be made to a spec of -
4.75mm and mixed with 7% bentonite for the base of the Leach pad. A total of 260
plant items will be used to construct the Leach pad over the 24 month period. At
peak the contract will have 800 employees of which 360 workforce and 70 staff and
management will live in a camp on site also constructed by the JV.

CLIENT:
The client is AREVA, a French company, whose core business is Nuclear Power
plants, enriching of Uranium and extraction of Uranium.

R1.2 billion (excluding VAT and contingencies)

The contract duration is 24 Months starting on 4 February 2010

Execution of Cut 8 Contract Mining Phase 1 at Jwaneng Mine

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This project will be done in JV with Bothakga Burrow. The project consists of 70-/30
JV with Bothakga Burrow.
The major works include drilling, blasting and hauling of 8 300bcm or 20 million tons of waste.
The following equipment will be used on site
• 5 Liebherr 984 (125ton) Excavators,
• 21 Komatsu HD465 and Terex TR60 (60ton) Rigid dump trucks and
• 5 DTH drillrigs.
Staff complement of +/- 260.
Site staff will be bussed in everyday from the surrounding areas such as from Kanye
some 85km from Jwaneng.

The Debswana Diamond Company (PTY) Ltd - Botswana

CONTRACT VALUE:
BWP202.3 million (excluding VAT)

CONTRACT DURATION:
The contract duration is 12 Months starting on 5 January 2010

National Route 17 Sections 3 & 4: Construction of Leandra, Trichardt and Ermelo Toll
Plazas Complex and Civil and Structural Contract


National route 17 Section 30 is located in the Mpumalanga province. The section between
Leandra and Leven station is currently being built as part of the eastern expansion of the
N17 route. The scope of this contract is limited to the construction of one mainline toll plaza
and two ramp plazas along this new expansion of the N17 route.

The new mainline toll plaza is positioned approximately 1,1km from the existing
Watervalshoek Interchange close to Leandra, where the current N17 route terminates.

The contract involves the construction of three main line toll plazas, namely:
• Leandra
• Bethal
• Ermelo

The construction of Toll Plazas on National Route N17 : Leandra, Trichardt and Ermelo Toll
Plaza’s Civil and Structural Works. This project is in Mpumalanga province and the
approximate duration is 24 months. The project consists of the construction of:
• 6 Mainline Toll lanes and 4 Ramp Plaza Toll lanes at Leandra,
• 8 Mainline Toll lanes at Trichardt and
• 6 Mainline Toll lanes at Ermelo.

There is a concrete tunnel to give access to the Toll Booths and a Structural Steel Roof
Canopy with concrete columns to support the structure at each of the Toll Plaza’s. There will
be nominated subcontractors appointed for the construction of the Control Building as well as
the Electrical and Mechanical Installation under the Main Civil and Structural Contractor.
The section of the N17 is part of the extensive freeway network connecting Johannesburg
and its immediate suburbs with the neighboring areas on the East Rand. The N17 connects
Johannesburg to the rural areas of Leandra, Bethal and Ermelo.
